Hymns from the Red Book
Meirav Ben DavidHymns from the Red Book
Meirav Ben David
Inspired by: “Libre Vermell de Monserat” (Red book of Monserat). A collection of medieval songs found in the Monastery of Monserat.
A women's choir gradually takes form. Body parts, costumes and choir objects come to life and lead the development. Out of the singing books emerge images and masks, texts and poetry, pilgrim hymns from the Middle Ages and women's songs from different languages and traditions. The figures and objects are endlessly transformed, undergoing a metamorphosis within the singing and within the circles of life. In the space created by the tense and delicate movement between ancient rituals and imaginary play, a new ceremony is born.
