The visual narrative techniques of contemporary puppetry for tackling the subjects of war.
Based on the study of a dramatic text (such as Suzanne Lebeaus Le Bruit des Os qui Craquent, or
Bernard Allombert's Charli et Nemo, dealing with the subject of child soldiers, and the study of a scene
or two), we will raise the issue of the representation of war in puppet theater: how to organize the
aesthetic narrative based on scenographic choices, what treatment of space and how to represent the
violence of war in the theater, and more particularly in a theater dedicated to young audiences?
1- First step: After analyzing the work, our method will be to create a sort of toolbox, based on our
collective ideas. We will draw up an exhaustive list of objects, drawings, landscapes, ruins, and any other
symbol cited in the text that recalls war, etc.).
2- Then, we will make an essential selection by choosing the most symbolic or universal forms from this
list, from which we will create our own vocabulary, orienting our future dramatic syntax. This method will
clarify our aesthetic choices for an uncluttered space, the direction of our actors, and the appearance of
our characters (puppets).
3- The third stage will involve creating small-scale models, drawings and scenographic projects, guided
by our first two stages of work.

The workshop will be in French/Spanish/Hebrew and is for professional artists.
