The Train theater developed “Trampoline” over the year 2023-2024, a unique framework for contemporary circus. The best contemporary circus artists in Israel today led the program (most of whom don’t live in Israel). We decided to open the festival with the openings of three works by three of the “Trampoline” program leaders: Danny Tavori, Inbal ben Haim and Jennifer Cohen. The works you will see are works under progress, which are searching for a new visual language, combining circus, visual theater and performance (which will be fully produced in the years 2025-26). The works are all performed above the ground, with this being the inspiration for the title “UP”. We hope that the festival opening, up in the air, will help our spirits rise up from the harsh reality of this last year.

The Law of the Conservation of Matter – Attempt at Dismantling no. 1
Inbal ben Haim

“No matter can ever be created or destroyed, everything is constantly changing”.

What can a law of physics from the 18th century tell us about the era we are now living in, when the race to innovate competes only with the human ability to saw off the branch we are sitting on?

On the seam between circus, modern dance and plastic arts, a series of performance acts are being stitched together, with the participation of the audience, dealing with the processes of building and dismantling – terrible and pleasurable in unison, circling around, and perhaps inside of us. In between beauty, chaos and a vacuum, we may perhaps remember with a glimmer of hope, that the material around us cannot simply disappear, or appear out of nowhere, but can only change its form.

Danny Tavori

A.M.O.W (A Matter of Weight) is a dangerous absurd circus universe, masquerading as a pulsating home where a lone person resides. The performance follows their journey in search of an initial sense of home within the rooms of their house, stitched together from hanging furniture like patches held up by black ropes pulling them to unexpected places.

Circus straps, hair suspension, interior design, mathematics, the ability to navigate chaos, psychology, and nouvo magic all come together on one stage in a groundbreaking performance. The creation is set to premiere in theaters in 2026 and, until then, it adapts itself to unconventional venues.

Discipline
Jennifer Cohen

A poetic - virtuosic circus creation

A skilled circus performer presents her technique as entertainment and her discipline as a practice. She loses herself in a world of mirrors, dancing among disco balls in a never ending circus ballad.

The creation "Discipline" humorously and critically portrays the circus world in all its vibrant colors and contradictions—a world infused with wanderlust and folly, challenging gravity and attraction, utilizing them to train the circus body. This body, superhuman and capable, is also marked by injuries and memories.

The entire audience is invited to join her in dancing the dance of life on stage—a swirling dance that can evoke both happiness, excitement and nausea.
