Contemporary dance for young audiences

A conversation between dance entrepreneur Simone Schulte-Aladag (Germany) and choreographer May Zarhy (Israel/Germany). Simone will share the background and motivations for the foundation and work of Fokus Tanz institution in Munich, Germany. Fokus Tanz works in bringing children and adolescents closer to the contemporary dance field through various activities. The conversation will then move to talking about explore dance - Network dance for young audience, where May created a stage piece for children aged 7+ in 2020-21. The network explore dance compromises of three partner institutes in Germany – fabrik moves Potsdam, Fokus Tanz / Tanz und Schule e.V. Munich and K3 | Tanzplan Hamburg – which entered into a long-term cooperation to develop a sustainable structure for the production of contemporary dance pieces for young audiences.
Simone Schulte-Aladag is the co-founder of FOKUS TANZ since 2006, where she is responsible for artistic development and project management. She is the co-curator of the biennial international festival THINK BIG! - dance, music theatre and performances for young audiences, which has been organised by Fokus Tanz in cooperation with the Schauburg since 2018.
May Zarhy is an independent choreographer working in Germany and Israel. Her work operates at the intersection of choreography, performance, and sound art. She is the artistic director of the bi-annual choreography program in Kelim Israel.
